ProJect considers the Xtension 9 Evolution quite an achievement. They’ve managed to incorporate all of their turntable design experience from more than 20 years in to a high end, slim-line size to fit standard audio racks.

The Xtension 9 chassis is made from MDF filled with metal granulate for high mass that virtually nulls resonance. Magnetic feet, which decouple the main plinth from its base, are combined with a weighty 16kg total turntable mass. The result is a unique combination of ‘mass loaded’ and ‘floating turntable’ design principles.

Instead of pure metal for the main platter, they’ve found a perfect alloy which has been damped with thermo plastic elastomers (TPE). Additionally it's glued recycled Vinyl records to the top (which act as a perfect mat) and baked this ‘sandwich’ before precision balancing it.

The final product subsequently benefits from a wonderfully resonance-free, heavy platter, that runs ultra-silently on an inverted ceramic ball bearing with magnetic suspension. The Xtension 9 Evolution includes a top-class 9cc Evolution tonearm and comes complete with a dust cover.

About Ortofon Pick-It DS2 MC Cartridge

When looking for high quality HiFi cartridges it is very obvious, that real High End systems almost exclusively use the Moving Coil principle. Because of the lower moving mass ? the moving coil is a lot lighter than a moving magnet ? a dynamic and detailed sound with superior low distortion is possible.

The resulting lower output voltage can be compensated nowadays with the use of a high quality phono stage (such as Phono Box DS2, Tube Box DS2, Phono Box RS). Another advantage is, that because of the very low source impedance (5 Ohm to 1 kOhm) outside interferences, like hum, are surpressed very effectively. If your phono pre-amplifier has variable load impedance (like Phono Box RS, Tube Box DS2) this allows for a wide fine-tuning.

The four connectors on the back are gold-plated, the threaded holes offer a fast and efficient mounting. The massive metal plate with three contact-points offers best possible contact to the tonearm.
