Description

2M are designed for precise and accurate retrieval of the information in the record groove

The Ortofon 2M Blue cartridge/stylus features a nude eliptical stylus which is a much finer cut of diamond that not only extracts more information from the record grooves but decreases record wear due to its larger footprint in the groove thus spreading the stylus pressure. With the Ortofon 2M Blue you get the high performance treatment: a full-range, highly resolving presentation that sounds neither stiff nor unforgiving. In fact, the 2M Blue's balance, both tonally and in terms of overall resolution, may be its greatest feat. Ortofon 2M Blue cartridge/stylus receives accolades for its detail revealing sound which keeps bringing you back for more.

In 1948 Ortofon developed its first moving coil cartridge, since then more than 300 different cartridges have been developed and manufactured. Acoustics, materials, technology and micro mechanics are key competences in Ortofon's technological prowess. Research and development is done with the company's own engineers supported by a strong network of acoustic know-how and industrial design in Denmark.

In 1957 Ortofon introduced a moving coil stereo cutter head and followed this in 1958 with the introduction of the "Stereo Pick-Up" or SPU, designed by Robert Gudmandsen. Initially Ortofon supplied these new cartridges in the Type A headshell, designed to be used in their own RMA pickup arm, to broadcast turntable manufacturers, including EMT.The SPU was used by early broadcasting companies among whom the Ortofon brand name was already well known from the first moving coil system. The so-called “Ortofon sound“ became synonymous with the sound from the SPU, at an early stage.

The sound of the SPU cartridge is characterized by a rich bass and a transparent treble range plus those extra qualities which are so hard to define, but so easy to appreciate when they are realized. The characteristics and heritage of these early SPU designs have been embodied in Ortofon's current cartridge range whether they be Moving Coil or Moving Magnet designs.

The 2M series of cartridges feature Ortofon’s trademark split pole pins, an invention which enables moving magnet cartridges to have a flat frequency response, as with a moving coil cartridge.

Split pole pins were invented by Ortofon, and were originally presented in the 500 series and Super OM series.

The 2M Blue uses an improved engine, which provides an increased output of 5.5mV.

Ortofons philosophy is to play the record sound as accurate as possible, without coloring the sound. They have optimized the design of 2M series for ease of mounting the cartridge, weight and size to fit the most common turntables at the market today.
