Understanding USB Audio....And The Types
Your computer has a very poor quality Digital To Analogue Converter or DAC and as a result many people choose to use a USB connection from their computer to transfer audio content to their audio system. There are two classes of USB audio,Class 1 and Class 2.They can both handle high resolution audio, but there is a clear distinction between the two.
The distinction between Class 1 and Class 2 are the resolution they can deliver.Compared to your computer's headphone output Class 1 can take you to a maximum of 24 bit/96 Khz resolution files, however if you want to choose studio master quality files then USB 2 is for you at 24 bit/192 Khz files.USB 2 is also considerably faster than USB 1.USB 2.0 satisfies the need to connect several devices that need a lot of bandwidth. The difference is that USB 1 can only handle 1.5 megabytes of data per second whereas USB 2 has a bandwidth of 480 megabytes per second. Both types of USB are compatible with each other.
It's about finding the level of quality that fits your situation....but we hope you choose the best musical experience.....and enjoy!
