Rega P3 For All....Redesigning A Classic
Replacing the 5 times What HiFi magazine product of the year (the Rega RP3 turntable) was never going to be an easy task. However, the owner and founder of Rega,Roy Gandy and his design team took 2 years to develop the all new Planar 3 turntable following the biggest redesign of the iconic "three" model ever seen. How big is the redesign........Rega claim that only 2 parts of the outgoing RP3 are incorporated in the Planar 3 design.
This would have to be described as a "ground-up" redesign. The new RB 330 tonearm is at the heart of the technology, along with a high gloss plinth, double bracing,a new bearing housing, redesigned sub platter, new float glass platter, and even new improved foot.
After the the huge success of the Rega RP3,the challenge of a redesign is a huge mountain to climb.Having spoken with a recent visitor to the Rega factory,it has clarified why this new design is truly an evolution.Roy Gandy and his design team are so passionate and understanding of music. They have recently designed a prototype unlimited cost turntable just to see how far they could go.
The early reviews.......HiFi Choice magazine being an example.....put it in a class of it's own.Quoting......"Regas new Planar 3 is something of a star"....a 5 out of 5 star rating.
