Rega Naia Reference Turntable

A High-End Audio Solution with Unmatched Rigidity and Precision

The Rega Naia Reference Turntable is a state-of-the-art audio solution from the renowned British manufacturer, Rega Research. This turntable builds upon the legacy of the Naiad test-bed ‘table from 2017, taking low mass, high rigidity plinth technology to new heights. In this blog post, we will delve into the intricacies of the Naia Reference Turntable’s design, materials, and performance.

Design and Materials

The Naia Reference Turntable features a Graphene-impregnated Carbon fibre skeletal plinth with a Tancast 8 foam core. This ultra-rigid structure is further strengthened by using two ceramic aluminium oxide braces. The redesigned, resonance-controlled ceramic platter boasts improved flywheel effect and complex profile for enhanced stability and reduced wear. The custom aluminium sub-platter with a ZTA (zirconium toughened alumina) spindle and central bearing ensures minimal abrasive wear and exceptional hardness for optimal performance.

Manufacturing Process

The spindle and bearing are manufactured as an identical set to reduce the risk of wear due to their identical hardness. The process begins with a powder preparation that is spray dried before being formed in an isostatic press that applies pressure in all directions for even density. The piece is then turned in a green state before firing at 1600°C for three days before grinding the bottom flange and bore to match the spindle diameter. The spindle runs on an ultra-thin layer of fully synthetic oil for smooth operation.

Structural Integrity and Vibration Control

The super-lightweight plinth combines with a ceramic top and bottom brace mounted specifically where increased rigidity is required between the tonearm mounting and main hub bearing. This stressed beam assembly prevents energy absorption and unwanted resonances that can negatively impact audio quality by ensuring accurate reading from the platter by the tonearm and cartridge. The use of braces instead of a complete skin allows increased thickness in key areas while providing further weight reduction to the plinth, addressing mass absorption and unwanted energy transmission issues.

RB Titanium Tonearm

The RB Titanium tonearm is designed to have minimal mechanical joints while using stiff materials in all critical areas for near frictionless movement horizontally and vertically with no measurable free play in bearing assemblies. It utilises a one-piece titanium vertical bearing and titanium vertical spindle assembly for maximum rigidity and accuracy in sound reproduction. The optional Rega Aphelion 2 moving coil cartridge is recommended for use with this turntable for optimal performance when paired with the RB Titanium arm.

Power Supply

The included NAIA reference power supply offers motor control stability, electronic speed change, anti-vibration control, user-adjustable electronic fine speed adjustment, ensuring total accuracy and control over the life of the motor while running it as quietly and accurately as possible using advanced DSP generator technology built upon a high stability crystal for precise speed control. Additionally, Rega has developed new rubber drive belts offering superior consistency of modulus for perfect fitment on their turntables without adding any unwanted coloration or noise to your music playback experience.

In conclusion, the Rega Naia Reference Turntable represents an exceptional investment in high fidelity audio equipment that pushes boundaries through its unmatched rigidity, precision engineering, innovative manufacturing processes, vibration control techniques, advanced power supply technology, and compatibility with premium cartridges like the Aphelion 2 MC cartridge – all resulting in an unparalleled listening experience that brings your vinyl records to life like never before!
