New Record Pressing Plants To Open Across The World
New Record Pressing Plants To Open Across The World
North America's second biggest record processing plant is soon to open in Burlington,Canada. It is owned by the President of major music distributor Isotope Music,Gerry McGhee. In Phase 1 of production the plant can do 4.5 million records a year.In Phase 2,once additional presses are added the plant should have thecapacity of up to 11 million records a year which will make it the second largest plant in North America.Their delivery time on orders of 6-8 weeks is a game-changer for the industry.
There is also good news for Aussies as Adelaide is to get it's first vinyl pressing plant. The hardware has been sourced from the heyday of HMV and equipped with a classic EMI desk.Roundabout are getting ready to setup shop pressing runs of 100 to 1,000 for local artists. The plant has secured a super rare Neumann AM-32 cutting lathe from HMV's New Zealand studios. All in all,it would seem that this studio is blessed with the potential to produce some amazing vinyl.
Another great announcement was that Texas has a new state-of-the-art vinyl facility planned by Indie label and pressing service "Hand Drawn" records. The new plant will operate new "fully automated" Warmtone" machines which the press declare the "most innovative record press to reach the market in record pressing history".Engineered by Canada's Viryl Technologies the machines are the first update in over 30 years and are said to deliver multiple efficiencies, including faster cycle times, less wasted PVC,less manual intervention and reduced power consumption.
There is also a new pressing plant in Brazil set to quadruple vinyl production.Located in San Paolo,at the former site of Continental Records, the new pressing plant should be up and running in the next few months. The snappily named Vinyl Brazil will join Rio De Janeiro's Polysom, which is currently the only pressing plant standing in Latin America. The new pressing plant will be the bigger of the two.Polysom can press 40,000 units per month, whereas the new plant will have the capacity to churn out a staggering 140,000 units in the same period.
What is all this saying about vinyl?....reasonably priced turntables are taking us all to a place of audio nirvana ....and we want more.....and we deserve more and it is coming.
