Cambridge Audio SR10 Receiver......Simple But Effective
Although a receiver these days is associated with a 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound unit that wasn't always the case.In fact receivers were particularly popular in the 1970's as simply a great way to combine a good stereo amplifier with a FM/AM tuner as a cost effective way to power a quality audio system. Some receivers from classic brands such as Marantz from that era are now selling on Ebay for more than their original new price.....and there is a reason....they were good quality audio.
Cambridge Audio hasn't forgotten what constitutes great audio value and have 2 receivers in their Topaz range that are a testament to this theory. The SR10,albeit their entry level offering offers great musicality and is certainly a long way from entry level and has surprising sound quality.85 watts RMS per channel certainly gets your attention and it's a Cambridge Audio 85 watts that means it's got serious dynamic range and soundstage prescence. It's almost as if the FM/AM tuner is a bonus for this pricepoint. The SR10 has returned to thereceiver's true roots in providing a quality phono stage so that you can enjoy the atmospheric sound of analogue on vinyl.
There is also the opportunity to add a second pair of speakers in another room or outside.Of course,a remote control is include. The build quality is excellent,it feels extremely solid and performs appropriately.Good hifi doesn't have to be complicated....it just needs to do a good job of delivering great music......something we all deserve! Is it possible we found ourselves lost at some point and found through MP3 that music can be better....it can be....
